I'm So Blessed

“I’m so blessed, I’m so blessed, got this heartbeat in my chest. No, it doesn’t matter about the rest, if I got you, Lord, I’m so blessed”. Have you ever noticed how kids get stuck on a song, movie or show and they want to listen to it on repeat without question? The lyrics from Cain’s “I’m so Blessed” song has played on repeat in my car for several weeks now. Like all good songs, it was upbeat and catchy, I enjoyed listening to it with Olivia. Later, after listening to it for the 16th time it felt mundane. But then, after a bit longer, it was as if the song sank into my heart. Hearing my daughter sing the song enthusiastically made me reflect. I truly am so blessed. I have a lot to be thankful for.

I’m sure you can relate in some way. It seems that the mundane and routine in life can potentially cause us to overlook the countless ways that each of us are blessed. Or perhaps we’re encountering a challenge or trial in life and it’s as though we can only see through the filter of those difficult circumstances. Instead, if we paused to take account of our life, we’d find ways in which we’re truly blessed. It could be that we find we’re blessed because:

  • We woke up to another day – a gift of the present

  • We have loved ones that we can count on

  • We have essentials in life – food, clothing, shelter

  • We have our health

  • We have freedom

  • We have jobs

  • For some, we have sweet pets

  • And for some, we have a relationship with God which grants us forgiveness, salvation, an anchor through life and the promise of eternal life.

The list could go on and on. I know life can be incredibly busy at times, but pausing every now and again to reflect on ways that we’re blessed is a sure way to give the right perspective. Sure, things aren’t always going to go our way or as we planned, but overall, there’s always something to be grateful for.

How would your perspective change if you took 2 minutes to make a list of 10 things that you’re grateful for right now? Go ahead, I can wait...

Well, how do you feel now? 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says to, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”. I know I gain a brighter perspective on my day and my life when I pause to thank God for everything that He has given me. I hope it does the same for you. 😊
